Jude Bates is a realist painter with the heart of an impressionist. The love of capturing animals in pastel and oils has continued throughout her adult life as a successful painter of dogs, wildlife and landscapes.
Jude is a graduate of the Schuler School of Fine Arts, an atelier style school in Baltimore, Md. where she was classically trained in the Old Masters’ Style of realist painting with much emphasis on drawing and form.
Dogs have always played an important part in Jude’s life. When painting a portrait, she brings a lifetime of knowledge, understanding and respect to the easel. She feels every dog is an individual with a character all it’s own. As an artist, she succeeds in capturing the unique spark that exists in every beloved pet.
Today, Jude’s work can be found in many private collections across the United States. Her pastel "Irish Wolfhound" was awarded "Best Entry Depicting A Sight Hound" and placed second for all pastel entries at the prestigious, Art Show at The Dog Show juried competition in Kansas City, Missouri.
